Designing with Type - Week Four by Lisa Hallett

Filed under: Featured Designers — Kathleen Pitt @ 7:07 am

This week, Week 4 sees Lisa working with rub ons with Type. Using rub ons is really easy as the hardwork is taken out. Instant Title, journaling or instant theme behind the layout. Lisa said : “I hope you have all enjoyed my layouts focussing on TYPE this month as I have enjoyed the experience and the challenge immensely, thank you for the opportunity! Can’t wait until next time !”

In “Time 4 Change” I have used the Basic Grey Periphery papers and Die Cut Alphabets. To create the story behind the layout I have used Rhonna Farrer Phrases Rub Ons called Life. I have then journalled with computer font and highlighted some words with underscoring or boxes with a black gel pen, to add deinition to the Type. I’ve also used Heidi Swapp green flowers, Petaloo Green Flower with Brown Polka Dot from Petaloo Box of Flowers and Heidi Swapp Chipboard Clocks.

In “What I See”, I have used Kaisercraft Squadron themed paper. I created my title using Daisy D’s rubons “What I See” and also used the Daisy D’s rub on border to highlight my main photo. Another twist on TYPE is to incorporate all different types of font, colours and sizes in your journaling for more creativity

Designing with Type - Week Three with Lisa Hallett

Filed under: Featured Designers — Kathleen Pitt @ 9:04 am

This week sees us working with Diecuts. Again with Type its all about using different fonts and sizes to mix and match on your layout. The more different fonts and sizes you use the better effect you have with Type.

In Smile above, Lisa has used the Daisy D’s Autumn Patterned Papers and the accompanying Diecuts to match. Using Diecuts makes it super easy to put layouts together, especially when the journaling is half done for you.

In Handsome above,Lisa has used the MME Tres Jolie Handsome Patterned Papers and Diecuts to match as well as some computer Type journaling to tell the story with a little more detail.

Next week is Lisa’s final week as a Featured Designer, so week 4 will see Rubons with Type. I hope you look forward to the last two layouts.

Designing with TYPE - Week 2 with Lisa Hallett

Filed under: Featured Designers — Kathleen Pitt @ 1:45 pm

Using editing software, you can create a number collage (dates of when photos were taken, a special occasion date - my case our wedding date) by placing numbers at various angles, making sure to overlap each number. Once printed, cut out, copy onto a patterned paper and recut out again and adhere to your page. A unique and different way of utilising TYPE! I have used the Daisy Ds Motherhood Paper pack as these papers set of the romantic tone, along with Hambly Screen Prints Rub Ons border and a Petaloo Peony flower - journaling I tucked away on a manilla tag with my own handwriting.

For a different take on TYPE I created letters from a film strip. Use the negative to form letters and handcut. Adhere your letters to your page and embellish with strips of the negative to enhance your layout. Also choosing a shape is another form of type. Create circles from editing software, print out, trace onto patterned paper, cut out and adhere to your page. I’ve used Daisy Ds Gypsy Harvest papers, Bumblebee Crafts Velvet Centred Flowers, Making Memories Staples, a Gel Pen and 1 roll of Kodak film.

Designing with Type - Week One with Lisa Hallett

Filed under: Featured Designers — Kathleen Pitt @ 11:19 am

Introduction to the world of Type! What is Type? Type is the short name for Typography! Typography is the art and techniques of type design, modifying type characters, and arranging type.

Type characters are created and modified using a variety of illustration techniques. The arrangement of type is the selection of typefaces, point size, line length, leading (line spacing) and letter spacing.

Type in layouts can mean utilising different fonts, creating words in different shapes, writing a word within a word, or simply stamping letters, utilising rubon words, using your own handwriting for journaling and many more!

In “His Mistress” Lisa has incorporated type by stamping the main title “His Mistress” with Autumn Leaves Alphabet Stamp Typewriter Hand Drawn and stamped “You are King” with Autumn Leaves Father’s Day stamps (incorporated in the TSE Father’s Day Mini Album Kit). In keeping with the type theme, Lisa has added stickers (Good Times, Brave and Strong) and “Don’t make me stop this car” from the 7Gypsies Fatherhood Sticker set (also included in the Father’s Day Kit). The journaling was created on the computer. One paragraph is printed in black and a second paragraph is printed in brown, for a different take on Type ! Papers used were from the Basic Grey Infuse collection.

The main focus on type in this layout was the “Cool Dude” title. Lisa created title blocks by covering chipboard pieces with MME Adorable paper and stamping with Making Memories Foam alphabets. Lisa then added on “dude” in smaller letters from Heidi Swapp Chipboard letters to create the title. She also stamped “Cool Dude” in Brown StazOn Ink using the Autumn Leaves Talking In Circles Boys clear stamps. For added emphasis on type Lisa printed out the journaling on Orange MME paper and cut into strips. All paper used in this layout was from MME Tres Jolie Adorable kit.

Week Four - Collection Packs with Fran Tynan - MME Signature Life

For her final week as our TSE Featured Designer, Fran Tynan worked with My Mind’s Eye Signature Life Buddy kit.

Love - This simply stunning layout maintains focus on the lovely photograph of Fran’s children. A printed paper from the set has been used as the entire background, with a little stitching, a die cut, strip of patterned paper and some journaling a gorgeous layout is created.

Daddy’s Little Buddy - another gorgeous layout incorporating printed paper and die cuts from the same pack. Fran changed the theme of the layout by adding the word “Daddy’s” to the title.

I have personally really enjoyed working with Fran this month and I know from your feedback that you have also enjoyed seeing her creations.  Thank you so much Fran for all of your hard work.

June Featured Designer - Week Three - Crate Paper with Fran Tynan

This week Fran Tynan has been working with Crate Paper Zoom Collection Pack. She’s even ventured Off The Page ….

Fran had long wanted to complete a canvas for her children’s room and the Zoom papers were just perfect. Her son loves tractors so Fran included three tractor photographs and has cut the letters for the Tractor title from the back of one of the printed papers in the set.

Christmas 2006 - initially Fran intended to use her son’s birthday photographs as the focus of this layout. She loved the frame that somewhat looks like a present and the Christmas themed layout evolved from there. The rub ons featured in this layout are also from the Crate Paper Zoom Collection. Fran has completed another two layouts with the products from the kit and still has product left to spare - these kits really are fantastic value for money.
